I am a fourth grader at the Dalton
School. My class read Alice in Wonderland because my teacher is nuts
about Alice. This is the web project we did on Alice in Wonderland:
Everyone in my class chose half chapter of Alice in Wonderland to illustrate. I chose "The Queen's croquet ground" because I wanted to draw the hedgehogs and the King and Queen of "Hearts." I drew with colored pencils and I tried to use Sir John Tenniel's style because I wanted to use the original Alice drawings.
I chose to draw the King and Queen of Hearts because the Queen was always shouting, "Off with their heads! Off with their heads!" I thought it was funny because real Kings and Queens beheaded their subjects and staff, but the Reverend Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) went too far. I decided to draw the King and Queen of Hearts marching. I changed their heads from being round to the shape of a red heart.
My second drawing was of the "Rose Tree." Even though I made it a tree, roses really grow on vines. That's why I drew the rose tree. My third and final drawing was of the hedgehogs and the flamingoes. I already explained why I drew the hedgehogs. I drew the flamingoes because I thought they would be different mallets than the ones we use today. I liked drawing the hedgehogs because they were prickly and tiny and I like to draw small things. It was my favorite drawing because I just like them.
I really liked doing this project.
