My name is Emma and I am a fourth grade student at the Dalton school, in Ms. Edinger's class. When Ms. Edinger first started reading the book Alice in Wonderland I thought it might be fun. Once we were really into the book, I did not like it. That's why I tried to take the books with lots of pictures (we all took different copies to read along while Ms. Edinger read.) I tried to focus on different illustrators to see how they drew and possibly to get ideas for the pictures I was going to illustrate.
For this project we got to watch a video called Dream Child. Dream Child is what Lewis Carroll called Alice when she was younger. The other interesting thing we got to do was go to the NYU library and see a lot of original copies. Some were very old and some were more recent but most were quite old. The next thing we did was to have a tea party which was fun.
The reason I chose this chapter: The Rabbit sends a Little Bill is because in that chapter Alice eats something that makes her grow big and then gets stuck in the White Rabbit's house. I thought that would be fun to draw. I also thought it might be fun to draw her shrinking because in that chapter she eats something that makes her shrink.
What I also liked about my
chapter was the puppy. The puppy appears when Alice is small again
and is walking in the grass. That too was fun to draw. Finally,
I wanted to draw Bill, a lizard that gets sent down the chimney of the
White Rabbit's house. But my partner got to draw that.
The materials that I used to illustrate
my pages were colored pencil and magic marker. At first I just wanted
to use colored pencil, but when I brought the pictures home to work on
I did not have all the colors I needed so I decided to use magic marker.
What I really liked about
the project was illustrating the pages. I thought that was the best
part even though the whole project was fun.
