-Abbie Hoffman
The anti-war movement didn't really start to decline until Nixon had removed all the troops from Vietnam. During the years of the peace negotiations, fewer and fewer people spoke out against the war, until finally the war was officially over and there was no need to protest. The protesters ultimately succeeded and gained what they wanted as their actions were part of the reason America stopped aiding South Vietnam. In the process, two American presidents were forced to resign, forever changing the course of American history. America's withdrawal from Vietnam, and, in essence, admittance of defeat, changed how American's look at their country. An entire generation distrusted the government, and yet, while some have grown up to become our current government, there is still a prevailing air of cynicism.
