A Mad Tea Party

Alice
Narrator
Dormouse
Mad Hatter
March Hare
Narrator: There was a table set out under a tree in front of the house, and the March Hare and the Mad Hatter were having tea at it: a dormouse was sitting between them, fast asleep, and the other two were using it as a cushion, resting their elbows on it, and talking over its head.

Dormouse snores
Alice: Very uncomfortable for the dormouse, only as it’s asleep, I suppose it doesn’t mind.
Narrator: The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it.
Mad Hatter: No room!
March Hare: No room!
Alice: There’s plenty of room!
March Hare: Have some wine.
Alice looks around the table
Alice: I don’t see any wine.
March Hare: There isn’t any.
Mad Hatter: Why is a Raven like a writing desk?
Alice: I give up-why?
Mad Hatter:I haven’t the slightest idea. At the great concert given by the Queen of Hearts, and I had to sing-

Mad Hatter stands up

‘Twinkle, Twinkle, little bat! How I wonder what you’re at!’

You know the song, perhaps?

Alice:I’ve heard something like it.
Dormouse:Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle, twinkle…
March Hare: Suppose we change the subject.
Dormouse stands up
Dormouse: Does anyone want to hear a story?
Mad Hatter & March Hare: Tell us a story!

Fade out to the well
Dormouse: Once upon a time there were three little sisters, and their names were Elsie Lacie and Tillie, and they lived at the bottom of a well.
Alice:What did they live on?
Dormouse: They lived on treacle.
Fade back into tea party
March Hare: Take some more tea.
Alice: I’ve had nothing yet, so I can’t take more.
March Hare: You mean you can’t take less.
Narrator: This piece of rudeness was more than Alice could bear: she got up in great disgust, and walked off.
