CHAPTERS 11 AND 12

Disney’s
Alice in Wonderland may be a fun movie to watch but our class learned about the original  Alice in Wonderland by Charles L. Dodgson a.k.a. Lewis Carroll.

Lewis Carroll was a Professor at  Christ Church College in Oxford, England. He based his Alice on a real Alice he knew and was fond of. Her name was Alice Liddell.

It all started with our teacher, Ms Edinger reading us Alice in Wonderland aloud. We shared illustrations from the book to get us familiar with the the illustrators for feature reference. Then we all choose  a chapter we liked for our next project. We then got a partner (2 in my case) and a chapter for our own toy theater production of: ALICE IN WONDERLAND!

I was in a threesome for the last 2 chapters. ('Who Stole the Tarts" and "Alice’s Evidence".) We made characters and scripts and back-drops and practiced! We had a dress rehearsal and finally taped it.

You wouldn’t think that studying Alice in Wonderland would be hard but it was. I never really knew the story but now I’m glad I do!

                      Getting To Know Alice

For about two months my class studied Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. We later made it into a play, with a toy theater. Our teacher, Ms. Edinger bought a toy theater during spring break, in London. She read the book to us, while we followed along in our own books of assorted illustrators to get us accustomed to the different illustrators. Then we picked chapters and we were put into groups in which we drew characters, props, and backdrops. Then we practiced and put on a dress rehearsal in front of the class.  Finally, we taped. Through all of this, I felt like I was getting to know a person, instead of a character from a book, now I really like Alice, I know however that in a few years, she will sink back into the pages of the ever loved book, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.

                                         Alice Essay

I want to tell you about what my class did on Lewis Carroll's Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  At first my teacher Ms. Edinger read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  Then the kids in my class  each picked what chapter they wanted to make a toy theater production.

After the chapters were decided, the groups made scripts based on the chapter(s).  Each group made little characters made of paper for each character in their chapter. After each group rehearsed several times in private there was a dress rehearsal.  Then for the next week a few groups would stay in from gym to perform in front of a digital video camera.

I really liked this project because we did a lot of fun stuff and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was a great book.
