THE QUEENS CROQUET GROUND

My name is Max and for our class's Alice in Wonderland/Reverend Charles L. Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) project I did a toy theatre production of the chapter "The Queen's Croquet Ground" with Molly.  Before doing the toy theatre production our teacher, Ms. Edinger, read Alice in Wonderland out loud to us.  After that we chose the 5 chapters we most wanted to do toy theatre productions of.  Then we started drawing the characters in our chapter and adapting a script. Next we put everything together and had a class dress rehearsal.  Last we had our final performances taped.

I really liked the illustrator Angel Dominguez because of how he added little extra touches of his own.  I modeled my cards after him; he inspired me to make their heads the same as their suits.  I also liked Carroll’s illusrations a lot and don’t understand why he didn’t illustrate Alice In Wonderland himself.

My favorite part of this project was the toy theatre production because of illustrating the characters and performing.  It felt sort of like I was the director and the illustrations were my actors.

My name is Molly, and I’m in the 4th grade at the Dalton School. For a literature unit we were studying Alice in Wonderland.

What we did was we had a partner and we made backdrops, characters and a script.  Then we put on toy theater production. I did the "Queen’s Croquet Ground". Before this our teacher read us the whle book,  Alice in Wonderland by Reverend Charles Dodgson while we followed along in lots of different illustrated editions. My favorite illustrators were Anthony Browne and Angel Dominquez because I think they use color very well.

I thought this study was a lot of fun and I think that Alice in Wonderland is a great story.
