Chapter 6
      Alice Essay
    By Rachel

After reading and learning about the book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, my class and I did a toy theater (it’s exactly what it sounds like) production on it.  We were broken up into small groups, and each group did one or more chapters from the book for the theater.

My partner and I had a lot of fun making our "Pig and Pepper" play.  We adapted the chapter for a script, illustrated it (that is, created backgrounds and small characters for the play), looking at the techniques of different illustrators of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Some illustrators I like are:
  Lewis Carroll
  Ralph Steadman,
  Walt Disney,
  Arthur Rackham,
  John Tenniel, and others.

One of the things I think is very interesting about the book is that Lewis Carroll based the main character, (Alice) on a real girl, Alice Liddell.

I had a lot of fun with our study of Alice.

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, is a great story. I’ve read it many times and don’t even think of getting bored of it! After Ms. Edinger read the book to us, we studied the illustrators.  Some of them like: John Tenniel, Peter Newell, Disney, and many more. I liked Abelardo Morrel a lot. He makes really nice illustrations with his photos.

I loved making the Alice toy theatre. We were all assigned a chapter from Alice in Wonderland in pairs.  We had to adapt the dialog from the book and make the scenes and characters.

I love Alice and love the things we did with it. It’s a great story!!
