| Our class read Alice in Wonderland.
I didn’t really like it. Then we made a Toy Theater Production, which was
much more fun. I liked it more because I like art and drawing. The book
was by a man named Lewis Carroll but his real name was Charles L. Dodgson.
He based the story on a little girl named Alice Liddell.
We did this because our teacher liked the book. We started it in February 2001. We first read the book then chose a chapter. After that we made the play. Next we practiced and practiced. I got chapter 5 Advice From a Caterpillar. I did it with a kid named Gabriel. My favorite illustrator was Bary Moser. He did dark scary pictures but I used Anthony Brown as a model. Overall I liked the Alice in Wonderland study and hope the next one is as good as this one. by peter |

I am a 10 year old fourth grader at Dalton, and here is my Alice project essay! Ms. Edinger read us the book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. Illustrated by John Tenniel (My favorite illustrator, though, was Peter Newell.) The character Alice was based on Alice Liddell. Ms. Edinger read us the book out loud. We were doing a study on the book. (The original was published in 1866.) After Ms. Edinger read it to us, we did a toy theater production. Peter and I did the "Advice from a Caterpillar: chapter. We had one dress rehearsal. Then we did the real thing. (As you can see, we were doing a unit on it.) Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is about a girl, Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole, shrinks, grows and has all different other adventures. It turns out to be a dream. In my toy theater production, it was hard illustrating it and typing the script. (We give credit to Anthony Browne for it was he who we got our ideas from.) When we at last did the final, we had trouble with the production because we were jumping ahead and laughing. All in all, it was cool because it had funny characters, and I liked Alice’s Adventures. by gabriel |
