Gates Going Up!
February 8, 2005

The gates were just going on as we came to the park the next Tuesday afternoon. Since not all of "our" gates were up we took a picture of the class in front of the first one we came to. Then we walked to the Great Lawn where we found a big pile of discarded orange makers. A worker who spoke little English nodded when Ms. Edinger asked if we could take them. So we each took one and Ms. Miller photographed us in front of a line of gates with the markers. Unfortunately, we then met a more senior volunteer who very nicely told us that the markers, like all the materials for the project, were to be recycled. So, sadly, we gave them back.

I saw the gates! A lot of them are up. We almost took the orange plastic things on them, but we found out that we couldn't. They gates look really cool. I wonder what they are going to look like when the fabric is done.

We took a picture in front of the first gate. It was awesome!

Finally the gates were up! Well, not all of them, but some. The cloth wasn't down yet, but they have it in a cocoon at the top of them. They were orange plastic. It was really cool.

Sitting,

watching,

feeling the breeze in my face.

Looking at the big pretty poles

surrounding Central Park.

Today was really fun, especially since I got my shoes and pants watery and muddy. I can't wait until the gates go down. It will be so cool!

Some of the gates were up. The gate poe was hollow. The gate fabric was rolled into a cocoon. We met a person who helped to put up the gates. The person answered a lot of questions.

Most of the gates' fabric were in their cocoons. We tried to take some plastic, but this guy didn't let us. I had a great time.
