16. [There is a big] difference [between Haiti and the United States]. It’s the poorest country of the Western hemisphere. 90% of the population is illiterate, meaning that they can’t read or write. We are so poor that some parents cannot feed their children. While in the United States we have an abundance of everything. Electricity in Haiti…they get electricity four hours a day. Usually, electricity comes at night. So if the kids need to study, they have to get up at two o’clock in the morning…that’s the only window they have for electricity. In here, in the United States, we have a lot…it’s a different life.
