Missed Quizzes/Tests
If you miss a preannounced test (or quiz):
If you were absent for ONE day for any reason, be prepared to take the test (quiz) within 2 days of your return, if you have no lab time, otherwise, plan for the day you come back. I can leave a quiz or test in an envelope for you in my "inbox" in the event we do not have common lab time.
If you're absent for more than one day and your absence is foreseen (e.g. a peer leadership obligation), please make arrangements BEFORE the absence to take the test (quiz) the day of your return, if possible. If not possible, plan for the day after that.
If you 're absent for more than one day for unforeseen circumstances (e.g. sudden and extreme illness), please email me or call so we can make arrangements for your taking it upon your return.
If you aren't wholly responsible, a late penalty will be applied to your grade.
The key idea is that if you are responsible and keep on top of your obligations, I will work with you.
If you're present the day a collectable assignment is due and you turn it in late, there will be a point penalty applied.
If you're absent for the ONE day it is due, kindly turn the assignment in upon your return.
If you are absent over an extended period, you should email me or call so we can make arrangements for your handing it in upon return.
Don't come late. It's kinda rude and disruptive to the others in class.
As in the student handbook regarding lateness policy, three latenesses will constitute one cut. Habitual lateness will effect your grade as well.
Homework, unless noted otherwise is to be done each night whether or not it is collected. There is no way you can excel in a math course without "getting your hands dirty".
Homework will be collected on an announced
basis and generally that which is collected will be challenging rather than run
of the mill problems. Students are encouraged to ask questions about the
homework in class. Depending on the nature of the question, that question may
be answered with the group or the student may be asked to come visit me in
Lab.
This will vary by
course. I’ll specify in class how
these are computed.
