Calc 1A

Assignment One

Before we can really get going on anything in Calculus, there are basics which must be preliminarily understood. Often in a higher level math class, a student may think they don't understand something about that new topic but what's going on, in fact,  is that he or she lacks some basic understanding of a preliminary skill or piece of knowledge that new material lies on top of. Much of this material may seem familiar to you but we'll be bringing much of it to a higher level. For example, when we talk about function composition, we aren't looking at it so much from a mechanical algebraic aspect but more from an analysis of domains  and ranges point of view. Some problems can actually prove quite challenging.

I will assign homework daily which coincides (hopefully well) with this, but as we are all new to each other, tweeking and other fine tuning may occur. But it is something to go on. As part of each night's homework, you should read over your class notes from the day's lecture, I generally pick my examples to demonstrate a particular point, so if you can answer the question, "what was the point of this example?", you have done your job. (If you can't, consider asking in class and if you feel that that isn't enough, sign up for a LAB.)
