FIRST PROGRAM

MUSIC

Dear Parents,

 

All interested 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders who love to sing are invited to join our wonderful chorus.  We especially want to encourage boys to join.  Our first rehearsal this year will be on Friday, October 6th in the Common Room.  Regular rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Our first concert will be February 14, 2007 in the Martin Theater.

 

Rehearsals are both work AND fun.  We sing a wide variety of pieces, all in their original languages, and children love the satisfaction they get from learning interesting and challenging music.  Our rehearsals begin promptly at 7:50 am.  Please help your child to arrive by 7:45 on chorus days (bus children will come directly to rehearsal when the bus arrives).  If your child takes the bus, please remind him/her that morning to come directly to chorus.  We understand that lateness for those taking school buses is beyond the childrenŐs control.

 

Children are able to participate in both LDM and Chorus by switching LDM to Thursdays.  Please speak to Carol Cox-Nickles about changing days.

 

It is important for all members of the group to attend all rehearsals except, obviously, in cases of illness.  Children who miss many rehearsals will not be adequately prepared for performance: we want everyone to feel confident.

 

Children who love singing will enjoy creating a beautiful sound, learning to watch a conductor, understanding what conducting gestures mean, memorizing music and learning performance skills.

 

When your child signs up we hope that he/she will continue for the semester.  If after three weeks or fewer your child wishes to discontinue chorus, please write us a note.

 

Please discuss with your child whether he/she would like to be a part of this experience and return the tear-off to your childŐs teacher.  Feel free to call us if you have any questions.

 

Please note:  Due to scheduling conflicts, there may be some changes throughout the year.  When the need arises for a change we will put up signs, inform the children, send home notes and post it on the website calendar.  There will also be extra rehearsals when we near concert time.  Letters will be sent home.
