Music Navigator

Music Navigator is one of three web-based tools that make up an online knowledge sharing system (the others are Dalton Explorer and the Primary Sources archive).  The combined toolset allows for Student-to-Student, Student-to-Teacher, and Teacher-to-Teacher collaboration as well as the seamless sharing of both work and multi-media resources.

An online database containing audio, picture, text and sheet music designed by the New Lab for Teaching and Learning in partnership with the music department. Teachers bring audio, visual, and textual materials to life through online listening and research assignments.

Students can search by artist, instrument, style, and form. A student can listen to Miles Davis' recording of Freddy Freeloader while viewing the sheet music for the piece (see figures). A library of photographs of Miles Davis are in the background as well as selected texts about him.

Students are then able to complete the assignment from the teacher. The student answers analytical questions online that are submitted directly to the teacher for evaluation.
