Moodle at Dalton

As part of the Dalton School's 2007 Strategic Plan we are moving toward publishing all Assignments and Curriculum online in an organized, always-available, resource for student access. Our initial focus will be on grades 6 through 12; our goal is to have all Assignments posted by the end of the 2008 school year.

Having Curriculum and Assignments online offers us three advantages:

1. It offers teachers an easy way to organize their materials and have their resources in one central location that is accessible through a web based computer. Having resources locally and public promote sharing of ideas and assignments vertically as well as horizontally through the curriculum.

2. It aids students by providing classroom resources for them outside of school. No longer will students lose their assignments as they are available for download at any time.

3. Parents and tutors are kept abreast of their child's assignments and due dates which will be available through their children's account. While parents do not have their own accounts they can have their children to log onto Moodle. With this access parents can help their children with organization and with due dates.

Our choice of classroom management software of is Moodle. Moodle is flexible enough to meet our demands for organization, is easy to learn and use, and is freeware.

The New Laboratory for Teaching and Learning is committed to working with all teachers (grades 6 - 12 initially) to empower them to post their class materials to Moodle.
